The warehouse of a major Czech importer, manufacturer, and distributor of CXS brand personal protective equipment and accessories will now be managed by the mySTOCK® WMS system. CANIS SAFETY expects the implementation of the advanced mySTOCK® WMS system to increase the efficiency and productivity of its warehouse operations.

The implementation of the system will enable the company to better manage and store its extensive inventory more efficiently, which will lead to reduced order dispatch times, optimized storage space, improved overall customer satisfaction, and, last but not least, increased dispatch performance. In June of this year, KVADOS’s mySTOCK® WMS was implemented in Kili’s central warehouse. Jiří, how do you feel about the entire implementation process in retrospect?

Jiří Mikšovský: We devoted a lot of time to preparation, which is why we decided to hire interim manager Peter Čurgali, who helped us coordinate the entire implementation phase. And even though the whole process was very demanding and long, we managed to complete everything according to plan and the system is now up and running and fully functional.

Did you encounter any specific problems in the central warehouse that you wanted to solve using WMS?

Jiří Mikšovský: There were a whole range of problems, because the warehouses in Kili had never been managed using a warehouse management system before, and we didn’t have a detailed overview of how they operated. We didn’t know exactly how many documents each warehouse worker processed or how long it took them to complete a specific task. We only had a comprehensive overview of the work done by all warehouse workers during an entire shift. We averaged these figures and then used them for further calculations.

Could you assess whether this situation has improved?

Jiří Mikšovský: Definitely. WMS has given us a detailed view of all operations within the warehouse, so now we can track every order and the actions of individual warehouse workers. We know exactly what stage each order is at and how long it will take the warehouse worker to complete it. So, among other things, it’s another tool for managing warehouse workers.

Zaznamenali jste i posun v oblasti eliminace lidské chybovosti?

Jiří Mikšovský: Yes, errors due to mixing up goods were particularly common for us. Previously, when picking was done according to paper documents, the warehouse worker would come to a given location where there were 2-3 different items on one shelf, and it happened that the warehouse worker would misplace their hand and take a different item than the one they were supposed to issue. We only found out about the error when the customer complained about the goods. With the introduction of WMS, this probability has been significantly reduced, because it guides the person and determines each next step. The warehouse worker thus gets to the correct location and, after scanning the barcode of the goods with the terminal, knows exactly that they have the correct item in their hands.

Great, that’s excellent news. After such a positive experience, I’m curious to know if you plan to implement it at your other branches as well?

Jiří Mikšovský: That’s what we went into it with. We said that if the system proved itself at the central warehouse and we saw that it worked, we would want to implement it everywhere. It even convinced the employees who claimed that it couldn’t work.

That’s wonderful, and we’re very pleased to hear it. Thank you. I have a few questions for Petr. Could you start by explaining what role you played in the entire implementation as interim manager?

Jiří Mikšovský: That’s what we went into it with. We said that if the system proved itself at the central warehouse and we saw that it worked, we would want to implement it everywhere. It even convinced the employees who claimed that it couldn’t work.

Jiří Mikšovský: I would just like to add that Mr. Čurgali played an important role for us in that he was an outsider and had no ties to our previous internal operations or employees. The acquisition of WMS was one of the most significant changes for Kili, and it was not easy to convince all employees of the correctness of this change. People resist change and believe that warehouse processes work, that they have always been done this way and that there is no better way to do them. Thanks to Mr. Čurgali’s professional approach, his experience, knowledge, and charisma, he was able to lead people and convince them that we were indeed on the right track. And that is where I personally see his main contribution.

I see that you both have your own perspectives, and I would be very interested to hear how each of you assesses the success of the mySTOCK® WMS implementation process.

Peter Čurgali: As far as deployment is concerned, we had a schedule that we agreed on, according to which we would deploy WMS by a certain date. Thanks to this, we were able to monitor the milestones and individual tasks that people in the team were given, as well as the deployment and testing of individual processes. As for the evaluation of the last phase, I would like to leave that to Mr. Mikšovský to answer. Jiří Mikšovský: In the preparatory phase, as Mr. Čurgali said, the benchmark was that we were keeping to the schedule and moving forward with the tasks and milestones that we had set together with KVADOS. After we launched mySTOCK® WMS on June 19, the main criterion for the functionality of the system for me was that we were able to receive goods, issue goods, and transfer goods without any problems. The only hiccup occurred on the day the system was launched, when we were unable to issue goods for personal collection for about two hours. That was the only major hiccup we had during the entire time. And that’s the most important thing for me, that thanks to WMS, the warehouses are working and working better.

We are very pleased to hear that. I believe that is why companies decide to do it. They need to gain a competitive advantage, and if they succeed, we are delighted. Peter, from an interim manager’s perspective, could you mention some key points that are worth considering before a company decides to implement WMS?

Peter Čurgali: It should definitely be prepared for this. It should have its data in order so that it has something to draw on, it should have a well-labeled warehouse, and it should know what it expects from the WMS. As mentioned here, it wanted to measure people’s performance, it wanted to refine, speed up, and improve processes. In my opinion, these are the reasons why a company should go ahead with WMS development.

Jiří Mikšovský: And I can confirm this, because we really did devote a lot of time and energy to preparation at the beginning. For us, this meant relabeling goods and locations, because things weren’t in ideal condition here; in short, it was never necessary in our uncontrolled warehouse. On the contrary, in a controlled warehouse, it cannot work without it. In addition to relabeling the goods, we also did not have the master data or dimensions of the goods in the system in order. That’s why we rented Cubiscan from KVADOS and ran several thousand items through it to get accurate dimensions, because the WMS can’t do without them either. This forced us to put all these things in order.

Petr, we see you as an expert in your field, and since you have helped implement our mySTOCK® WMS for a customer for the second time, can you objectively say how our WMS differs from the competition you encounter?

Peter Čurgali: As you said, this is the second deployment, with a four-month break in between, and what I consider very positive is that in the first project, some requirements for the development of your WMS arose, and after four months, they were offered as standard in the next project. You are developing your system quickly and doing it well. I see this as a huge advantage for you.

With more than thirty years of experience on the market, Euromedia Group publishes 700 new titles a year, operates the largest book wholesaler in the Czech Republic, and runs the Luxor bookstore chain. The company’s growth was not slowed down even by last year’s noticeable deterioration of the economic situation in the Czech Republic, and it continued to grow in terms of both order volume and profits. With the growing demand for books, the company’s storage facilities must also grow, and it is rebuilding them this year. The project to build a new 10,000 m² robotic warehouse concentrates a huge amount of technology in one place.

The heart of the robotic warehouse is the myFABER® WES and mySTOCK® WMS control layer.

Our mySTOCK® WMS solution plays a key role in this project, intelligently controlling and navigating all the technology represented in the warehouse. Space saving with modular technology

The biggest challenge for warehouses is often the growth in the volume of goods. Increasing capacity can be very costly and offer no added value. It not only saves space in the warehouse, but also streamlines and speeds up the entire order picking process. The robots move along aluminum frames using a predefined route set by the myFABER® WES system. This is one of the largest implementations of Autostore.

All sections are subject to the power of automation

Further space savings are achieved with Jungheinrich pallet racks and semi-automatic VNA trucks. The racking system moves precisely as instructed by the myFABER®WES layer. It automatically creates aisles from the racks, in which the VNA truck moves along an induction wire. The entire process is controlled on site by an operator via a tablet, which sends precise instructions to the truck.

The process of shipping a single item is thought out down to the last detail. One of the final stops is the CartonWrap automatic packaging line produced by CMC, which is controlled by the mySTOCK® WMS system. But the technological cocktail does not end there. The packaged goods are stored in up to nine high-bay racking systems from the Kardex system, which communicates with Pick-to-Light technology. All goods in KLT boxes are moved from one workstation to another on roller conveyors from TMT.

The company JITRANS logistik, spol. s.r.o. focuses on storing the assortment of larger storage providers, such as wholesalers and e-shops. The warehouse is strategically located in Jihlava, which ensures excellent accessibility throughout the Czech Republic and Slovakia. They currently provide 3PL services for six warehouses and are planning to expand, so they needed to optimize and streamline their warehouse processes. They also wanted to meet the requirements of their clients, significantly reduce the administrative burden of communicating with them, and connect the WMS system directly to their information systems and e-shops. For smaller storage providers who do not have the option of direct integration, they used a B2B portal as a solution, which facilitates two-way communication with the WMS system and ensures error-free transfer of documents and product range data.

3PL warehousing has its own specific requirements. In addition to the above, it also requires the easiest and most accurate record of services provided to individual depositors, which serves as the basis for accurate and transparent invoicing. Only KVADOS was able to fully meet these requirements in the tender with its specialized industry version, for which JITRANS logistik also received very positive references and which also met the requirements for planned development towards robotics and automation. We offer the mySTOCK® product in three industry versions: Retail, Production, and Logistics. It is the third solution, tailored to the logistics vertical, that puts it in a unique position on the market. The entire project was implemented in an extremely short time of only two months. Since the beginning of February 2022, the mySTOCK® system has been running in the warehouse of JITRANS logistik in live operation, currently for one warehouse operator, but work is underway to implement two more.

mySTOCK® WMS comprehensively manages the work of warehouse staff, assigning them tasks with precise instructions on what to do, where to go, and where to go. In addition, it accurately records every action performed with a specific product range, such as relocation, packaging, repackaging, or adding instructions. It also supports the recording of consumed materials. This allows JITRANS logistik to invoice its customers for individual tasks in a simple and, above all, transparent manner, without a heavy administrative burden. Warehouse workers use PDAs that we supplied in cooperation with one of the two leading manufacturers, our partner Honeywell.

In addition to the WMS for warehouse logic management, we also supplied and implemented an interface that ensures direct communication and data exchange between the warehouse operator’s ERP system and the WMS system of JITRANS logistik. This significantly speeds up and streamlines communication between the provider and the warehouse operator, who has an immediate overview of stock levels and can automatically transfer picking or stocking requests. This ensures a significant reduction in administrative work and errors and increases the speed of all communication. This is also appreciated by Miroslav Stárek, Commercial and Financial Director of JITRANS logistik: “I am surprised by the versatility of the system and its ability to communicate with other IS. I appreciate the proactive approach, i.e., that they don’t look for problems, but solutions.” User-friendliness for clients is key for a logistics company, as it makes it more attractive to potential new customers. Thanks to process optimization, clients save significant costs related to transportation.

The first customer to implement the system was also a new client for JITRANS logistik. Nevertheless, the transition to the new system was extremely quick and went smoothly. “Perfect work. Complete professionalism, from organization to technical knowledge. Everything went without a hitch. Willingness to go above and beyond their duties,” Mr. Stárek praises the implementation process. He also mentions the main benefits that the new system brings to the company: “The warehouse is currently running smoothly. Minimal error rate, satisfied customers. We are now able to work better with people, evaluate the demands of individual activities, and thus optimize the number of people on shift. We have detailed reports on the situation in the warehouse. We have experience with SAP and other warehouse systems, and I must say that I am glad that mySTOCK® is a Czech system with Czech owners. It just confirms to me that even in our small country, we have something to be proud of. Thank you again!

Robots will be responsible for locating goods in the warehouse and transporting them to warehouse workers, who will take delivery of the goods and prepare them for shipment in so-called work ports. In the first phase, goods will be stored in 65,000 plastic boxes (known as bins) in the 10,000 m² warehouse, and up to 90 robots will assist employees in preparing goods for shipment. Thanks to the modularity of AutoStore technology, the design of the future warehouse allows for further gradual increases in its capacity and performance. Jungheinrich mobile pallet racks will provide further space savings and speed up order picking, among other things by reducing unused aisle space.

“The big challenge in preparing the new warehouse is carefully coordinating all processes and ensuring the accuracy of the data inputs on which Autostore technology depends. The entire process also includes the integration of a new Warehouse Management System from the Ostrava-based company KVADOS. We will use it to control robots, conveyors, and the automated pallet warehouse,” says Jan Kuneš, IT Director at Euromedia Group.

The introduction of state-of-the-art storage technologies will help the group maintain high service quality and ensure its continuous improvement. “This goes hand in hand with our commitment to keeping our promises. For example, if we guarantee delivery of goods within two days or “under the Christmas tree,” we must deliver on that promise. However, due to growth, we are approaching our capacity limits at the peak of the season. The robotization of the warehouse will free up our hands and allow us to continue to develop to the satisfaction of our customers, employees, and investors,” concludes Kamil Kidoň, Director of Logistics at Euromedia Group.

The mySTOCK® Portal is designed for all customers of the Logistics industry version, or rather for their warehouses, where customers store goods and provide logistics services. The portal can be used independently (an ideal option for smaller and medium-sized warehouses, which do not need to integrate their data with the mySTOCK® Interface or use the mySTOCK® API) or as a supplement (in data viewing mode only) if the warehouse is already connected to the mySTOCK® Interface/API or plans to do so.

Integration scenarios for new customers and depositors to connect their primary information system (ERP, shop, etc.) to mySTOCK® WMS are now extensive, but very often their implementation is neither immediate nor inexpensive, so the biggest advantage of the portal is that it is available almost immediately to existing and new customers, without the need for complex programming to connect ERP to WMS.
